Point Sparring

---

Each sparring match will have three (3) or five (5) judges.

Majority Agreement: Points, warnings, and all decisions require a majority of judges to agree.

Each match lasts 2 minutes with continuous time unless the center referee signals a time stop.

A winner is determined by:

• The competitor with the most points at the end of two minutes.
• Achieving a five (5) point spread over the opponent.
• If the opponent bows out of the match.

Ties:

• Overtime: If tied after 2 minutes, there is a 1-minute overtime.
• Sudden Death: If still tied after overtime, the first competitor to score wins.

Mandatory equipment:

• Mouth guard
• Male groin protection
• Hand gear covering thumb and second knuckle (no MMA gloves)
• Footgear covering toes and instep
• Headgear covering forehead and back of the head

Optional equipment:

• Face Shield
• Chest protector
• Forearm guards
• Shin guards
• Female groin protection

1 Point: All legal techniques to target areas are awarded one point.

Target Areas:

• Legal: Front of the body, sides, kidneys, and head. Intermediate and above all ages 8 & above divisions may use light head contact; other divisions must maintain a 2-inch distance).
• Illegal: Below the waist, spine, shoulder blades, and head contact in beginner divisions.

Legal Techniques:

• Straight Punch (Jireugi): Allowed to torso and face, provided contact remains within the allowable level for the competitor's age division.
   
• Reverse Punch (Bandae Jireugi): Must be delivered to the torso or chest area only. Reverse punches to the head or face are not permitted in any age division due to the risk of excessive impact from rotational force.
   
• Backfist (Deung Jumeok): Permitted to the side of the head where allowed by age division, but must demonstrate clear control and accuracy.

• Kicks: All kicks using the foot as a striking tool

Illegal Techniques:

• Spinning backhands, knife hands, open hand strikes, uppercuts, spear hands, claw strikes, shin/forearm/knee/elbow strikes
• Sweeps or prolonged holds (over 2 seconds)

Points:

• 1 Point for any controlled, legal hand technique to a target area.
• 1 Point for any controlled kick using the foot to a target area.
• Head Contact: Intermediate and above all ages 8 & above. All other divisions must keep strikes 2 inches from the head to score.

Illegal Technique Warnings:

• First Warning: Verbal warning.
• Second Warning: Opponent receives 1 point.
• Third Warning: Disqualification.

Out-of-Ring Warnings:

• First & Second Warnings: Verbal warning.
• Third Warning: Opponent receives 1 point.

Poor Sportsmanship Warnings:

Applies to the competitor, coaches, or fans.

• First Warning: Verbal warning.
• Second Warning: Opponent receives 1 point.
• Third Warning: Disqualification.

Note: Judges may disqualify a competitor at any time for serious infractions.
