Self-Defense Applications

Participant Guidelines:

  • Team Size: 1-3 athletes per performance.
  • Styles  and Techniques: Techniques must be rooted in traditional or recognized  martial arts styles, adapted for practical self-defense.

Performance Criteria:

  • Realism: Techniques should demonstrate practical applications against common attacks (e.g., grabs, strikes, chokes).
  • Effectiveness: Emphasis on controlled, effective techniques for neutralizing an opponent safely.
  • Flow and Transition: Smooth transitions between movements, showing control and awareness.
  • Technique: Proper form and accuracy in strikes, blocks, and defensive moves.

Safety Rules:

  • Controlled Movements: No full-contact strikes; prioritize control to avoid injury.
  • Safety Gear: Minimal protective gear may be required if techniques are performed at high speed.
  • Supervision: Performances are overseen by event officials to maintain safety.

Judging Criteria:

  • Practicality: Real-world applicability of techniques.
  • Execution: Precision and control in technique demonstration.
  • Awareness and Defense: Display of situational awareness and defensive skills.
  • Presentation: Confidence, focus, and overall presentation quality.

Performance Time:

 Time Limit: 2-3 minutes per performance.
