Board Breaking

Age Categories and Board Sizes:

  • Ages 5-7: 10"x12"x0.375" boards
  • Ages 8-10: 10"x12"x0.5" boards
  • Ages 11-13: 10"x12"x0.75" boards
  • Ages 14 and Above: 10"x12"x1" boards

Board Purchase:

Boards must be purchased on-site at the venue.   Pre-order your boards for easy pickup.

Event Rules:

  • Stations: Each athlete may attempt up to 3 breaking stations. They receive one attempt per station.
  • Board  Count: Athletes may use as many boards as desired at each station, but  if any board does not break, it results in a fault for that station.
  • Board Holders: Athletes must provide their own board holders; cinder blocks will be provided by the venue.
  • Protective Gear: No protective gear may be worn for the breaking attempts.

Scoring Overview:

  • Each athlete has up to three stations for breaking, with one attempt per  station.
  • Points are awarded based on the number of boards successfully broken at each station.
  • The maximum possible score would be the combined total of all points earned at each station.

Points per Station:

  • Clean Break (All Boards Break): Full points awarded for the number of boards broken.
  • Partial Break: No points if any board remains unbroken at a station (considered a fault).
  • Station Multiplier: Bonus points awarded based on difficulty for higher board counts per station.

Point System by Board Count:

  • 1 Board: 5 points
  • 2 Boards: 10 points
  • 3 Boards: 20 points
  • 4 Boards: 35 points
  • 5 Boards: 50 points
  • Additional boards can add +10 points each

Station Multiplier:

  • Athletes who successfully break boards at multiple stations receive a multiplier based on the number of stations completed.
  • 2 Stations: Total score multiplied by 1.1
  • 3 Stations: Total score multiplied by 1.25

Example Score Calculation:

  • Station 1: 3 boards broken (20 points)
  • Station 2: 2 boards broken (10 points)
  • Station 3: Fault (no points)
  • Total before multiplier = 30 points With a 2-station multiplier (1.1) = 33 points

Additional Scoring Considerations:

  • Tie-Breaker: In the case of a tie, the athlete who broke the most boards at a single station wins.
  • Judging  Accuracy: Judges will observe for clean, complete breaks and ensure  board breaks align with proper technique for fair scoring.
